PROJECT SPOTLIGHT
ACI Award: Ameren Bagnell Dam Stabilization
This project was a strategic one for Ameren as they look to continually improve the largest privately-funded dam in the US, and provide clean energy for the residents around it. With the Bagnell Dam dating back to the Great Depression and without a major structural enhancement in over 30 years, new technology had to be engineered to continue the strength and durability of the aging structure. The 2,453 feet long, 148 feet high gravity dam required over 66 million pounds of concrete and 67 post-tension anchors to be drilled into bedrock as a part of the stabilization project. Faced with unique challenges, the team took an overall collaborative and innovative approach to overcome and solve these challenges with the use of new technologies, such as hydro demolition and an in-house developed project tracker. Approximately 17,000 cubic yards of concrete were used on this highly visible and historic monument.
